Is a Size 10 zipper exactly 10 mm?
Not always. Size 10 metal zippers measure about 8.5 to 10 mm, and the exact width is confirmed on a sample. Our zipper size guide explains the logic.
Where is a Size 10 zipper used?
- Overcoats and heavy jackets: Metal or molded plastic open-end.
- Workwear: On thick, demanding fabrics.
- Outdoor gear: For heavy-duty use.
- Tarpaulins and awnings: Plastic options suit outdoor exposure.
- Large luggage: Two-way coil or molded plastic.
Is Size 10 the same as No. 10?
Yes. The size follows the international size number: Size 10 = No. 10 = #10. Exact millimetres vary slightly and are confirmed on a sample.
Does every heavy product need Size 10?
No. Lighter tents, for example, can use smaller sizes. The right choice depends on load, fabric thickness, how often it is opened and the look you want.
Measurement table
| Source | Value |
|---|---|
| JIS class (heavy) | 8.5-12 mm range |
| Turkish course notes, metal Size 10 | 8.50-8.60 mm |
| One maker's catalogue, metal | about 8.6 mm |
So a metal Size 10 is usually under 10 mm. If width matters to your order, confirm the millimetre value on a sample.
A trap with nylon: market codes
Some market codes used for nylon zippers in Türkiye do not match the international number. According to one set of course notes, a nylon zipper called "Tip 10" there can be about 6 mm wide. When you talk to a supplier, write the measurement next to the size name. See the measuring guide for the method.
Working with Size 10
Large teeth need the right foot and needle set-up on the sewing machine. The slider is larger too, so choose a puller in proportion to the product. To compare one size down, read the Size 8 guide.
